Values That Guide My Tutoring

When I work with students, I take a calm and patient approach. I focus on really understanding what they are struggling with, and I break things down step by step so everything feels manageable. I use real-life examples and visuals whenever I can, as they bring even the most abstract ideas to life and help students picture concepts clearly.

I am someone who listens carefully, does not get flustered easily, and encourages students to make mistakes openly. My passion for supporting learners comes from my own difficult experiences in education, and I am committed to creating the kind of support I wish I had. Helping others grow and understand something new genuinely gives me a sense of purpose.

My Teaching Approach

I always adapt my lessons to each student, but I generally begin with a short recap. This can involve me asking questions or the student writing down what they remember from our last session. It helps set the tone for the rest of the lesson, although some students prefer to complete their recap independently – and I always adjust to their preference.

When a new student joins me, my first priority is understanding their goals. I want to know whether they are aiming to pass confidently, push for top grades, meet a particular deadline, or focus on a specific topic. This helps me shape a plan that matches exactly what they need.

I work with all ability levels by taking time to understand each student’s pace, strengths, and areas that need more attention. Confidence-building is woven into every session – I regularly ask students questions about material we have covered, and over time they can see for themselves how much more they remember and understand.

Experience and Background

I have been tutoring and teaching for over 10 years. My journey began by volunteering to teach English as a second language to asylum seekers and refugees, which sparked my passion for supporting learners from all backgrounds.

While completing my degree, I undertook the intensive Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TESOL) qualification — a combination that is quite rare due to the demands of both commitments. This experience taught me discipline, resilience, and how to manage learning effectively, skills I now bring directly into my tutoring.

Since then, I have worked in private language schools, and mentored and coached learners across a range of subjects. Mentoring is something I am particularly passionate about, and I make it an integral part of my approach to tutoring, helping students not just succeed academically but also build confidence and independence.

Subjects

I tutor a wide range of subjects across all levels, providing tailored support to meet each student’s goals. Whether it is exam preparation, coursework guidance, or developing essay and critical thinking skills, I adapt my approach to suit the needs of every learner. My focus is always on helping students gain confidence in their abilities and achieve the best results possible.

How I Support My Students

I help students build confidence by providing reassurance and using real-life examples to make learning relatable and meaningful. By connecting concepts to the real world, students can see the relevance of what they are studying and feel more engaged. My focus is on making each session effective and interactive, ensuring that students leave with a clear understanding and a sense of achievement.
